Ophthalmology Internship, Animal Eye Consultants, Chicago, IL

Animal Eye Consultants is offering an ophthalmology internship in the Chicagoland area starting July 8, 2026 through June 30, 2027.  

The goal of the ophthalmology internship is to prepare a potential ophthalmology residency candidate for successful placement into an ABVO residency program following completion of the internship.

Clinical duties will be conducted under supervision of ACVO diplomates. They will include (but not be limited to) diagnosing and treating clinical patients, participating in general anesthesia, and performing selected surgical procedures.  The intern will be expected to interpret laboratory and histopathology findings and communicate them with clients and referring veterinarians in a timely manner. 

The intern will be expected to participate in Monday evening rounds (case reports, journal club, image recognition), histopathology rounds, present at the Midwest meeting and will also be encouraged to present at the ACVO meeting.  Candidates must be highly motivated and have previously completed a one-year rotating internship or its equivalent in private practice.  The intern must have a valid Illinois veterinary license. 

Selected candidates will be asked to interview by zoom or in person. 

Animal Eye Consultants offers a salary of $46K, medical and professional liability insurance and reimbursement for licensure,  ACVO meeting allocation, 14 days for paid time off including residency visitation.
