Texas A&M University Comparative Ophthalmology Residency: 

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Texas A&M University is accepting applications for a 3-year, American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ABVO)-approved, comparative ophthalmology residency training program.  Deadlines and offering dates listed below are in accordance with the 2023-2024 ORCA Rules and Dates.

The Comparative Ophthalmology Service at Texas A&M is supported by two faculty ophthalmologists, two residents, and two dedicated service technicians.  Our service provides veterinary ophthalmic care for the Departments of Small Animal Clinical Sciences (dogs, cats, birds, small exotics, laboratory animals) and Large Animal Clinical Sciences (horses, food and fiber animals), with occasional consultations at local zoos and aquariums.  The residency training program is clinically focused; however, residents are expected to engage in some research and teaching activities.  For a full program description and Texas A&M University employment information, please visit: http://vetmed.tamu.edu/VSCS/internships-residencies

Salary:  $35,000

Application timeline:

  • Deadline for receipt of complete application: 12pm EST, Monday, November 13, 2023. 

  • Residency offer date: 12pm EST, Monday, January 29th, 2024. Please be available by phone at this time. 

  • Inclusive dates of the program: July 22nd, 2024 – July 23, 2027.

Application requirements:

  • Letter of intent: Statement of the candidate’s interests and goals in ophthalmology.

  • Curriculum Vitae: Including cumulative veterinary school GPA, class rank, phone and e-mail contact information. 

  • Copy of transcripts: Including both preclinical and clinical veterinary curricula. 

  • Three letters of recommendation: Additional letters will not be accepted. 

For graduates of non-AVMA-accredited colleges of veterinary medicine, the applicant will need to obtain the PAVE or the ECFVG certificate, however please note that the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences is not able to sponsor applicants for H-1B or E-3 non-immigrant employee categories.  For questions regarding applicant prerequisites, please contact Ms. Amanda Williams (vscsrecruiting@cvm.tamu.edu)
