Animal Eye Center Of New Jersey - One-Year Ophthalmology Specialty Internship

The Animal Eye Center of New Jersey is offering a one-year ophthalmology specialty internship beginning July 22, 2024. The internship will provide a highly motivated applicant with extensive exposure and experience in clinical ophthalmology while being supervised by a board-certified ophthalmologist. Structured, weekly didactic rounds will be performed on a rotating basis including but not limited to journal club, image recognition, and Gelatt rounds. The intern will be expected to have an active role at the Animal Eye Center and by the end of the internship be able to: obtain a thorough medical history; maintain precise medical records; effectively communicate with referring veterinarians, staff, and clients; perform ophthalmic diagnostics including slit lamp biomicroscopy and indirect ophthalmoscopy; become competent in performing and interpreting ocular ultrasound and electroretinography; understand ophthalmic surgical procedures and perform basic ophthalmic surgeries; and devise and provide post-operative treatment plans.  

The intern will be expected to give a minimum of one continuing education lecture and perform a research project that should be accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal prior to the completion of the internship.  

All applicants must have successfully completed a 1-year rotating internship, have a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree, and passed the NAVLE. A NJ veterinary license is required and can be obtained after the start of the internship if necessary.
