The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine at Rowan University invites applications for a full-time Veterinary Ophthalmologist to join our growing faculty and teaching hospital team. This is an exciting opportunity to help establish and shape a new ophthalmology service within a state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital while contributing to the education and mentorship of future veterinary professionals.

About the Position
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and expanding the ophthalmology service within Rowan University's new Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. The hospital is designed to support comprehensive specialty and primary care services and includes:

  • Advanced diagnostic imaging (GE CT and 3T MRI)

  • Anesthesia services

  • Dentistry and oral surgery

  • Primary care

  • Small animal surgery

  • Internal medicine

  • Oncology

  • Cardiology

  • Neurology

  • Exotic animal medicine

  • Dermatology

  • Emergency and critical care

  • Full-service pharmacy with sterile compounding capabilities

The ophthalmologist will provide comprehensive clinical ophthalmology services while actively participating in the teaching and training of veterinary students, veterinary technology students, interns, and residents. Responsibilities include clinical instruction, student assessment, mentorship, and delivery of ophthalmology content within the pre-clinical and professional curricula.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and grow the ophthalmology service within the teaching hospital.

  • Provide high-quality ophthalmology care to companion animal patients.

  • Participate in collaborative patient management with specialty and primary care services.

  • Teach and mentor DVM students, veterinary technology students, interns, and residents.

  • Contribute to the didactic and clinical ophthalmology curriculum.

  • Engage in service, scholarship, and professional activities consistent with faculty appointment expectations.

  • Support the mission of an innovative veterinary medical education program.

Required Qualifications

  • DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree.

  • Successful completion of an ACVO-approved residency training program in veterinary ophthalmology.

  • Board-certified or board-eligible status with the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO®) or board-certified status with the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO).

  • Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of New Jersey.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical ophthalmology.

  • Experience teaching veterinary students, interns, or residents.

  • Interest in program development and service growth.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Appointment and Rank

This is an open-rank faculty position, and candidates may be considered for appointment at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level. Positions may be offered in either the clinical or tenure-track faculty pathways, depending on qualifications, experience, and professional goals.
