In response to ongoing advances in veterinary medicine and the continuous expansion of knowledge, the clinic is strengthening its team with additional specialized colleagues. We are seeking a

Senior Clinician in Veterinary Ophthalmology (m/f/d), full-time or part-time, starting as soon as possible.

Our university hospital offers a broad spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic services across internal medicine, surgery, reproduction, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia, and numerous other specialties, represented by an international team of Diplomates.

The ophthalmology service is currently being re-equipped to provide a full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures at a university hospital level. Advanced imaging modalities, extensive functional diagnostics, and state-of-the-art surgical instrumentation, including an operating microscope, together with a dedicated ophthalmic operating theatre, provide an excellent clinical and research environment. The hospital leadership is committed to enable further targeted investments in equipment and technology.

This setting allows you to play a key role in shaping an ophthalmology service, with substantial independence in clinical work, research, and teaching, supported by strong institutional commitment to the development of this specialty.

Your responsibilities

·         You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of more than 30 senior clinicians.

·         In this key position, you will shape the development and direction of a new, highly qualified ophthalmology team and play a central role in establishing a clinically and scientifically leading service.

·         You will manage complex ophthalmic cases in close collaboration with all clinical services and contribute your expertise in interdisciplinary senior staff meetings.

·         A major component of your role is the training and supervision of residents (ECVO/ACVO), including active involvement in the residency program.

·         You will contribute to teaching and supervising veterinary students and doctoral candidates.

·         You will supervise doctoral candidates and, together with fellow senior clinicians, organize regular doctoral retreats.

·         You will work closely with referring veterinarians and deliver comprehensive ophthalmic diagnostic and therapeutic care.

·         You will report directly to the head of the clinic.

 

Your profile

·         Degree in Veterinary Medicine with a license to practice (or eligibility for licensure) in Germany.

·         Diplomate of ECVO or ACVO, or residency completed with board certification pending (continued support will be provided).

·         Broad clinical experience in veterinary ophthalmology and a strong interest in further developing the discipline.

·         Enthusiasm for teaching, structured supervision, and teamwork.

·         Scientific curiosity, interest in publishing, and motivation to acquire third-party funding.

·         Clear and respectful communication skills with colleagues and pet owners.

 

Proficiency in German (spoken and written) is required for communication with students, staff, clients, industry partners, and stakeholders. Candidates who do not yet meet this requirement must be willing to acquire the necessary language skills within reasonable time. Applicants with severe disabilities or equivalent status will be given preference if equally qualified.
