Assistant/Associate Professor of Comparative Ophthalmology (tenure track)

 

The Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences at the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Comparative Ophthalmology.

 

The position includes a 50% clinical commitment to the Ophthalmology Surgery service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), including night and weekend coverage, shared with 5 other ophthalmology faculty. Other responsibilities include teaching, professional competence, creative scholarship, and service.

 

The current base pay range is $185,800 to $239,100. Other components of pay may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

 

Qualifications: Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) or European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO), or completion of an approved residency of the ACVO or ECVO by date of appointment, is required. Preference will be given to those candidates board-certified by ACVO or having completed a residency approved by the ACVO. Board certification will be required for appointment at or promotion to the Associate rank. Documented record of creative scholarship or potential to develop and lead a research program in ophthalmology is required. Training and experience in cell and molecular biology and/or translational research with application to vision science is preferred. Documented clinical experience and demonstrated competence in clinical veterinary ophthalmology are required. Demonstrated aptitude or experience in providing clinical instruction to DVM students in veterinary ophthalmology is required. Demonstrated aptitude or experience mentoring students in the classroom and/or laboratory is preferred. Demonstrated success in securing extramural funding is preferred.

 

A PhD or equivalent, or advanced training in research, is preferred. Must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
