VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) 2019 Internship

VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) is accepting applications for a one year, small animal specialty ophthalmology internship to start July, 2019.

The objective of this program is to provide advanced training in clinical and surgical ophthalmology for individuals planning to apply for a veterinary ophthalmology residency. The specialty intern will be responsible for assisting with ophthalmology consultations that come through the hospital’s emergency service as well as all ophthalmology appointments.  Average caseload ranges from 15-20 cases a day and an average of two-four surgeries a week.  The intern will be expected to participate in journal club and histopathology rounds at VCA NWVS as well as attend ophthalmology rounds at the local medical school.  At the end of this internship, the intern will become skilled in the use of slit lamp biomicroscopy, indirect and direct ophthalmoscope, ERG, tonometry, ocular ultrasound, and introductory ophthalmic surgery.

Candidates are required to have completed a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program and either a rotating small animal medical internship or two years of practice.  Interns will be required to become licensed to practice in Oregon.

The submission of transcripts, CV, two letters of recommendation (one from an ophthalmologist) and LOI are required.  Please email the required materials to Dr. Paul Scherlie, ACVO at paul.scherlie@vca.com.  Interviews will be conducted in April and May 2019; no applicant will be considered for an internship position without being interviewed.
