Animal Eye Care Associates will be offering a 6 - 12 month ophthalmology clinical internship at our Virginia Beach/Chesapeake Virginia offices

Animal Eye Care Associates will be offering a 6 - 12 month ophthalmology clinical internship at our Virginia Beach/Chesapeake Virginia offices starting after June 15th 2019 (exact start date depends on applicants schedule). The duration of the program may vary based on the applicant’s experience. The purpose of the ophthalmology specialty internship will be to prepare the intern for successful application to an ophthalmology residency program.

The internship program will be a highly supervised experience under the mentorship of 3 - 4 board certified veterinary ophthalmologists who have been training both ophthalmology interns and residents for over 15 years. Mentorship will also be provided by a third-year ophthalmology resident as well. All of our previous interns have either gone on to enter Animal Eye Care’s ABVO approved ophthalmology residency program, or have applied and been accepted to other ophthalmology residencies.

The responsibilities of the ophthalmology intern will include supervised patient care, management of inpatient and outpatients, assisting with surgical procedures, and assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of companion animals, equine patients, and wildlife and exotic animals with various ophthalmic diseases. In addition to providing clinical case management to patients presented to Animal Eye Care, the intern will be expected to participate in monthly journal club, and histopathology rounds and quarterly resident review sessions. The intern will also be expected to participate in a clinical research project to be directed and mentored by our board-certified ophthalmologists and our current ophthalmology resident.

Prerequisites for application include:

1.  DVM or equivalent degree
2.  Completion of at least one year of a general medicine/surgery internship or equivalent
3.  Submission of Curriculum Vitae and veterinary school transcripts
4.  Letter of Intent (between 1 - 3 pages)
