Dr. Ruth Marrion
43 year old privately owned male lilac crowned Amazon. He has had focal swelling of his lower right lid for several weeks. Owner says that gentamicin drops helped a little but did not completely resolve.
Middle of lower right lid is swollen near the lid margin. This does NOT appear to be a sinus problem. There is focal thickening, may be 1 cm round, of the lid near the lid margin, enough that the lid margin does not lie on the cornea like the other does. I was able to palpate both sides - there is no apparent pain, no hyperemia, no discharge associated with the swelling. Both nares appear clear, she said that the bird is sneezing more than usual, but there is discharge from both nares and it is clear.
Cytology of the conjunctival aspect revealed leukocytes that I think are eosinophils, could be heterophils. None of these cells on cytology of the fellow eye without swelling.
