Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University invites applications for a full-time, clinical-track or tenure-track faculty position in Ophthalmology in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.  The qualifications, documented experience, and interests of the selected candidate will determine appointment rank.

The successful candidate will join 2 other ophthalmologists (Rachel Allbaugh and Lionel Sebbag), 3 residents (in a well-organized residency program), 2 amazing technicians, and will enhance the in-state and national prominence of the Ophthalmology activities at Iowa State University. Clinical effort will be dedicated to professional practice and clinical instruction in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). Clinical duties may include weekend or after hours obligations. Non-clinical time will be dedicated to the development of a creative program of scholarship, didactic and laboratory teaching, academic service, and outreach activities. The ideal candidate may also have a unique clinical focus that will enhance the Ophthalmology service activities in the LVMC. A commitment to practicing a customer centered service philosophy and maintaining a collegial working environment is expected.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
-DVM or equivalent degree.

- Successful completion of an American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ACVO), including American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ABVO), or European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ECVO) approved residency training program.  Candidates in their final year of an approved residency training program will also be considered.

- State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before the first day of employment.

In addition, positions at the following ranks will require:

·        ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR: An established record of experience and scholarship through manuscript preparation and publication comparable to that expected for commensurate rank at ISU; professional practice and clinical teaching as a board certified ophthalmologist; national or international scholarly, clinical, or education presentations; and a successful record of external granting activity are required.

·        CLINICAL ASSOCIATE OR CLINICAL PROFESSOR: Candidates must meet the requirements commensurate for each rank at the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Familiarity or experience with student or other trainee instruction.

- Clinical or basic science research experience.

- Clinical experience in both small and large animal ophthalmology.

- Board certification by The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists or the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
